Birdman and Dancer

BM: "Who do you want me to bring?"
KB: "Whoever chooses to join you on the day."
BM: "Good....we need a quiet corner somewhere with a big tree to roost for the night...."

Birdman and Dancer were the first guests to greet me as I arrived at the gate entrance to the church. The Pixies ’La La Love You’ replaced ’Here Comes The [yawn] Bride’. I walked down the aisle barefoot and giggled throughout the ceremony. Never saw myself as married. This day, magic, beyond my wildest imaginings. My idea of marriage, if it had to be, was a quick registry job and perhaps an intimate gathering of people. How is that possible when you’re forty and first time married? You can’t not invite your family of friends. What’s the cut off point for intimate? 400 people? Before me, a sea of familiar faces, a lifetime of friendship all here. Kind of similar when you see your life flashing before you just as you brace yourself for possible death, except this was my wedding day. Maybe I did die and my wedding was my funeral?

Alf Edgecombe married Karen Blandford on 29 December 2007, at All Saints Church in the Swan Valley. Reception held [across the road] at Edgecombe Brothers Winery.

Karen was born in Bendigo, Victoria. A family move to Western Australia in 1981 saw Karen spending her teen years in the remote north west, whereby the vastness of the Pilbara landscape compelled her to paint. It left an indelible imprint and remains a source of inspiration for her.
